10 Men Gor Mahia Completes A Double over AFC Leopard in an Intense Mashemeji Derby

On Sunday, Nyayo Stadium was painted blue on the right side and green on the left side for a big derby between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.

The game saw its defining moment in the 29th minute when Gor Mahia's goalkeeper Opiyo's blunder paved the way for Gor winger Austin Odhiambo to secure the winning goal.

Despite an early attempt by Gor Mahia's Musa Masika and a missed opportunity by Musa Sheriff, it was AFC Leopards who nearly took the lead in the 22nd minute, only to falter at the finish.

Before Odhiambo's decisive strike, he had narrowly missed hitting the post in the 20th minute, setting the stage for Gor Mahia's victory.

Gor Mahia faced adversity when goalkeeper Kevin Omondi was red-carded in the 35th minute, leaving them with ten men against AFC's eleven for the rest of the match.

Despite AFC Leopards' relentless pressure in the second half, it wasn't until the 90th minute that Austin Odhiambo's goal sealed Gor Mahia's win.

The game held significance for Gor Mahia's Omalla, who aimed to break the tie for top scorer against Tito Okello, though he fell short despite numerous opportunities.

This victory marked Gor Mahia's second consecutive win over AFC Leopards this season, following their earlier 2-0 victory at Kasarani Stadium.

With this win, Gor Mahia extends their lead in the league standings, boasting a nine-point margin over Police FC, while AFC Leopards remains in the 8th position with 38 points.

Having lost only two games out of 27 played this season, with 16 wins and 9 draws, Gor Mahia looks poised for continued success.

In the next seven remaining matches, Gor Mahia will face:

Murang'a Seals on May 4th

Shabana FC on May 11th

KBC on May 15th

Muhoroni Youth on May 18th

Sofapaka on June 16th

Talanta FC on June 19th

And they will face Bidco United in their final game on June 23rd.

In other Sunday results, Tusker emerged victorious against Ulinzi Stars, while Muhoroni settled for a draw against Shabana with a scoreline of 0-0.
