Gor Mahia came from down to beat Kakamega Homeboyz in a match played at the newly renovated Bukhungu stadium. Homeboy started on a high but were very wasteful in front of the goal. Their pressure bore fruits in the 32nd minute when Ali Bhai neatly looped the ball over a hapless Gor Mahia keeper. Their lead was cut short by Ivorian Ephreim Guikan who tapped into an empty net from a Sammy Onyango cross ending the half in a stalemate.
10 minutes after the break, Ephreim Guikan capitalized on a defensive mix up to give Gor Mahia the lead. He narrowly missed a chance to have a hat trick before Allan Wanga levelled the scores for the home side. Kogallo in search of a winner ensured piled more pressure on the homeside. Homeboyz keeper was a busy man and was forced to come off his line to deny substitute Meddie Kagere in the 70th minute.
Momanyi, former Homeboyz defender, returned to haunt his former side when his header settled the scores for Gor. The win ensures Gor still remains at the helm of the table with two games to in hand.
English Premier League
Elsewhere the English Premier League continues tonight. Manchester City, the 2017-2018 champions return to action tonight playing hosts to Brighton. This is a Brighton side full of confidence after beating Manchester United.
With UEFA announcing that top 4 teams from the English Premier League gaining direct entries into the group stages of the champions league, the race is also becoming harder. Manchester city and united are but already guaranteed a spot. Just 3 points separate Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea.
Both Chelsea and Tottenham are in action tonight and a win for both sides would keep their hopes of qualifying for next seasons Champion League alive. However a lose or draw for either side would greatly impact their chances for qualification.
Tottenham on 71 points need a minimum of 4 points from their remaining two home games to guarantee a spot in the top four.
Chelsea on 69 points still remain the outsiders here. Their hopes are dependent on either Liverpool or Tottenham faltering and them hauling the remaining 6 points. They are more likely to settle for 5th position and qualify for the 2nd tier European Completion, Europa League alongside Arsenal.
Liverpool can simple qualify by beating Real Madrid in this season’s final. However that’s a hard gamble. They have a superior goal difference over Chelsea but will have to wait until their final against Brighton to guarantee a spot in next season’s Champions League.
