Nashville SC and LA Galaxy go head-to-head in a playoff game at Dignity Health Sports Park. Nashville hails from the southern United States and are considered to be a fairly new club. However, they have been making big strides as a group by getting their way into the quarterfinals of the playoffs. The Galaxy, with years of experience has received the most MLS Championships in the United States.
The game began with immediate pressure from Nashville as a unit. However, opportunities from LA Galaxy were promising from Chicharito Hernandez. In the 29th minute, Chicharito Hernandez played a ball to Riqui Puig at the top of the box but there was no chance of the ball going in. Nashville, however, had very good structure with going in with high pressure on Galaxy's defense that was making quite a few mistakes from the back. It wasn't until the 50th minute, when LA Galaxy's attack had a 4 v 2 situation against Nashville's defense. Puig confidently dribbled down the middle, checked his shoulder, and passed it to Chicharito who was making the run on his right side. Chicharito scored and LA Galaxy celebrated. Moments after the goal, the referee reviewed VAR and concluded with the decision of NOT counting the goal, and giving Nashville SC the freekick. The foul was due to LA Galaxy defender, Araujo.
A few minutes after, in the 60th minute, Defender Araujo played a ball to Grandsir, made a stalled run inside the box, causing Nashville to lose him and headed it from the left side of the goal into the box. Resulting into LA Galaxy up 1-0.
Although, Nashville seemed like the more structured team out of the two, and had many chances at goal, especially in the last few minutes of the game, LA Galaxy came off with the win and moves on to play LAFC in the MLS Cup Conference Semi-Finals at the Banc of California Stadium this Thursday, October 20th.
