Bayer 04 Leverkusen Ends 120-Year Drought To Clinch Bundesliga Title

After a remarkable 120-year dry spell, Bayer 04 Leverkusen has emerged as the champions of the Bundesliga 2023/2024 season, marking their first league victory since their German Cup triumph in 1993.

In a dominant display, Leverkusen sealed the title with a commanding 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen on Sunday, April 14th, with just five matches remaining in the season.

The match saw a penalty kick from Boniface in the first half, followed by a goal from ex-Arsenal player Granit Xhaka in the second half. Florian Wirtz, a 20-year-old, sealed the victory with goals in the 68th and 90th minutes, completing his hat trick. These five brilliant goals secured Leverkusen's triumph in the league.

This historic win not only secured the title but also ended Bayern Munich's 11-year domination of the Bundesliga, with Leverkusen boasting an impressive unbeaten streak of 43 matches across all competitions this season.

Under the leadership of manager Xabi Alonso, who rescued the team from relegation when he took over in 2022, Leverkusen has experienced a remarkable resurgence.

Despite speculation surrounding his future, Alonso has reaffirmed his commitment to the club, dismissing rumors of a potential move to Europe, including Liverpool, stating his intention to stay with Leverkusen for the next season.
