LA Galaxy kicked off their game on Central American Independence Day at home against Houston Dynamo FC. With a foul from each team within the first 3 minutes, Houston Dynamo’s Forward, Darwin Quintero managed to slide a ball to Fafà Picault, where he placed the ball into the back of the net to start off his 130th MLS appearance today. Captain, Jonathan Dos Santos making his 95th appearance, had a scoring opportunity after Victor Vasquez slid a pass to the top of the box, where Dos Santos was just shy of the right post. Galaxy managed to gain 63.3% of possession, however, fell short by a Picault's goal, ending the first half at 1-0.
Galaxy came out hungry in the second half, along with subbing in 22-year-old, Dejan Joveljic immediately making an impact in the 61st-minute, by giving a left-footed cross to Chicharito who went up against Teenage Hadebe, beating him with a header to the back of the net, granting him his 11th goal of the season. Tying the game 1-1. Again, LA Galaxy managed to gain more possession the second half, as well as more scoring opportunities but was getting unlucky with placing it into the back of the net. Picault creating some scoring opportunities on Dynamo’s end was subbed out in the 73rd-minute. LA Galaxy had the ball on Dynamo’s end of the pitch most of the half, but both teams did not manage to score another goal. Houston Dynamo received five yellow cards and LA Galaxy received one throughout the entire match. Resulting in a 1-1 tie at Dignity Healthy Sports Park.
