LOS ANGELES, Calif. — June 19, 2024 — In a thrilling midweek matchup, LA Galaxy secured a 2-0 victory over New York City FC at the Dignity Health Sports Park. The game, attended by 20,043 enthusiastic fans, showcased a tale of two halves, with LA Galaxy turning the tide after a slow start.


The first half saw New York City FC dominating possession, as they controlled the pace of the game. By the 34th minute, it was evident that NYCFC had the upper hand in terms of control and ball possession. Their dominance almost paid off in the 37th minute when player #22 came close to breaking the deadlock, sending a shot just wide of the goal.

However, it was LA Galaxy who struck first against the run of play. In the 41st minute, Galaxy's #9 Dejan Joveljić found the back of the net, electrifying the home crowd. This crucial goal came just before halftime, providing a much-needed boost for the Galaxy. As the first half concluded, with two additional minutes added, fans cheered enthusiastically, pleased with the sudden shift in momentum after a somewhat lackluster start.



The second half kicked off with a bang for LA Galaxy. Just five minutes in, Diego Fagundez doubled the lead, scoring a well-placed goal in the 50th minute. This early strike in the second half completely changed the dynamics of the game. LA Galaxy began to assert more control and possession, a stark contrast to their first-half performance.



Throughout the remainder of the match, LA Galaxy not only pressed forward with attacks but also solidified their defense, effectively thwarting NYC FC's efforts to mount a comeback. Both teams continued to exchange attacks, but it was Galaxy's newfound vigor that stood out, preventing NYC FC from finding the back of the net.
