Eastside HS (5-2-0) hosted Pete Knight HS (8-2-1). Pete Knight HS girls were hoping to bounce back after last Tuesday's game vs Quartz Hill HS were one of their key players was forced to leave the game due to a minor injury. From the initial whistle, the Lady Hawks were determined to take control of the match. The host team was also short of a key player due to an injury.
Pete Knight took control of the possession of the ball and the host team was forced to defend for most of the game. Eastside HS counterattacking efforts would come short due to the strong ball recovery from the lady hawks. The defensive line was able to shut down any attempts from the home team and they were able to expand the field by switching the ball from side to side, thus making the job easier for their midfield to receive and send perfect passes to the offensive players.
The first goal for the visitors came from a free kick outside the left side of the box. Alondra Mungia placed a perfect free kick to the upper right corner of the goal to put the hawks ahead 1-0. A few moments later, a player would be fouled inside the box for a penalty kick which the goalkeeper was able to block and maintained the score the same.
The home team would get a chance to equalize the score when a handball inside the box was called by the referee, however, the kick would be missed far to the left and the score would remain the same for the rest of the first half.
In the second half of the game, the lady hawks would retain control of the game and had multiple chances to score but the Eastside goalkeeper would deny them for the time being.
The second goal for the lady hawks came in the middle of the second half when a strike from outside the box was blocked by the Eastside goalkeeper and the rebound fell onto the feet of Jennifer Vera, who was able to place it onto the back of the net bringing the score to 2-0 in favor of the lady hawks.
For the remaining of the game, the lady hawks' leading scorers Brenda Murillo would take multiple shots that would be deflected by the defense. Jennifer Vera would score her second goal of the night when she placed a header back into the net earning them a 3-0 victory over the lions.
