Vela crowned after a 3-0 win over visiting Colorado Rapids

Los Angeles Football Club kicked off the 2022 season with a win against visiting Colorado Rapids on Saturday, February 26th, 2022 in front of a filled up Banc of California.

The promising start saw coach Steve Cherundolo get his first win as the second coach, in LAFC history, as well as captain Vela getting crowned by Brian Rodriguez for bagging the only three three goals.

LAFC and Vela's first goal came in at the 29th minute when he converted a penalty that was as a result of Colorado Rapid's defender Lalas Abubakar being whistled for handball in the pk area.

6 minutes later, Vela received a long ball from Jose Cifuentes and had to go shoulder to shoulder battle for the ball against Abubakar which he won after toe poking the ball to a 2-0 lead.

Cifuentes went on the assist book for the second time after finding Vela in the right wing in the 50th minute, Vela was able to set the ball to his power left foot and curled in his hat trick.
